Free Civics and Citizenship professional learning program

​Register now for a free short course to enhance teacher capacity in implementing Victorian Curriculum Civics and Citizenship Levels 3–10. We are pleased to be conducting the course in collaboration with Monash University and Australian Catholic University.

The course is open to Victorian primary and secondary school teachers from government, Catholic and independent schools. Teams of teachers from the same school are encouraged to participate. Participants will have the option of either completing the 8 modules of this course entirely online or via blended learning.

One day of CRT is provided for every participant, which will be payable to the school upon the teacher’s completion of the program. Travel costs of regional teachers attending face-to-face workshops may be reimbursed on application. At the end of the program, participants will be awarded a Digital Badge as a record of their achievement.

Course dates: 6 September to 15 October 2021 (10 hours total time commitment); course places are strictly limited.

Get a leading social scientist into your classroom for Social Sciences Week (Sept 6-12)

Social Sciences Week is an initiative of Australia’s main social sciences associations https://socialsciences.org.au/socialsciencesweek/
 
It is an opportunity for social scientists to engage non-academic audiences with cutting edge social science research, to showcase the diversity and relevance of social science. It will include interactive community and school-based events, bringing the social sciences to life, particularly for the next generation of university students, social scientists and citizens. High school students in civics and citizenship and the social sciences are one of the priority audiences for Social Sciences Week and the Organising Committee has partnered with SCEAA to offer to find academics to visit classes during the week.

SCEAA members and all schools are welcome to request a speaker on any social science topics of interest and the SSW committee will do their best to find someone for you.

​If you are interested, please provide the time and date of your class, the year level and a short statement on the topic you would like the academic visitor to explore with the students. Registrations are open now and will close by 6 August 2021.

Monash Arts are excited to be running the 'Social Justice Matters' video essay competition for high school students, with $2,000 in prizes available, winners to be announced during Social Sciences Week (Sept 6-12) this year. All the information is on the website below:
